This year marks the 40th Anniversary for San Diego Surf Soccer Club and we would like to thank all who have supported, contributed, or have played for the Club over the last four decades. San Diego Surf Soccer Club has accomplished many great things over the years but the true constant has been great people being brought together to support the sport of soccer, but most importantly being involved in the development of our children both on and off the field.

In the early years the Surf Soccer Club was known as the San Dieguito Surf Soccer Club (founded in 1977) and became the first competitive club in San Diego. In 1988, the Surf Cup is launched and quickly becomes the marquee soccer tournament in southern California. In the years since, the Surf Cup has expanded and continued to be home each year to the “Best of the Best” and is widely regarded as one of the top youth soccer tournaments in the nation.

In 1993 Director of Coaching, Colin Chesters, is hired and begins his impressive run of building nationally-ranked teams. That same year the Polo Felds become the Surf Soccer Clubs home fields allowing our players to train and develop at the finest facility in the county.

In 2008 the Surf Soccer Club is accepted into the USSF Development Academy, one of 80 clubs to be admitted. The Developmental Academy is a partnership between US Soccer and the top youth clubs around the country to provide the best youth players in the U.S. with an everyday environment designed to produce the next generation of National Team players.

In 2009 Surf Soccer Club is accepted into the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) in its inaugural season. The ECNL is a partnership between top clubs in the nation to implement a developmental philosophy and competition structure that foster the growth of the nation’s elite female soccer players

In 2012 Surf Soccer launches its affiliate program, which has grown to eleven affiliate clubs, signing Murrieta Surf Soccer Club as its first affiliate. Now our affiliate program stretches from Hawaii to New York!

In 2016 Surf Cup Sports is selected from amongst competitive bidders to take over the long-term lease for the San Diego Polo Fields. On July 25th, San Diego’s City Council approved a 28-year lease between Surf Cup Sports and the city of San Diego, ensuring that Surf Cup and Surf Soccer Club will have a home for generations!

Lastly our Girls program won the IMG Top 150 recruiting title for the second straight year! In addition, 2017 will be the first season for the Girls in the Development Academy! We are very proud to join in the inaugural season!

The San Diego Surf Soccer Club is the only youth soccer club in San Diego County that is a member of both the USSF Developmental Soccer academy for boys and the ECNL, Elite Clubs National League, for girls. These two leagues represent the highest level of youth competition in the United States with the goal of producing the next generation of National team players.

Since 1997, Surf Soccer Club has produced 9 National Championships, 24 Regional Champions, over 60 State Champions, hundreds of college scholarships, over 20 National team players and multiple MLS players. 100% of the girl’s first team (ECNL), and close to 100% of the girls in the second team at U18 received scholarships to play soccer in 2015.

In closing all of us at the San Diego Surf Soccer Club would like to say thank you very much for support in helping the Club to have a home for 28 more years.

Thank you for volunteering during weekends/holidays, and most importantly for the privilege of training and teaching your children this great sport and hopefully making them better people.
