Bobby comes to Surf from coaching collegiately in Kansas City at MidAmerica Nazarene University. Bobby went on to win the Heart of America Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award in 2018.
Originally from Palmdale, California, Bobby grew up playing in the USSDA under current Surf Vice President, Josh Henderson. Bobby was a part of the inaugural USSDA season where his Los Angeles Futbol Club, now LA Surf, went on to win the Western conference and finish as finalists in the National Championship.
From there, Bobby went on to play at Cal State University, Fullerton where he captained the team as a center back during some of its most formidable years. After graduating, Bobby went on to play under U.S. Soccer’s Eric Wynalda in the North American Soccer League (NASL) with the Atlanta Silverbacks. During his 3 seasons in Atlanta, Bobby was a part of two Open Cup runs which included wins over Real Salt Lake and Colorado Rapids, as well as finishing as league finalists in 2013, losing out to the New York Cosmos. In that same season Bobby earned 2 Team of the Week honors and NASL player of the month.
Bobby stepped away from the game in 2015 to pursue coaching and earn his Master’s Degree in Counseling. Along with coaching, Bobby became a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Kansas where he worked with individuals, couples, and families for 2 years before relocating back to San Diego and joining Surf.
Bobby is extremely grateful to be able to come back to California and work within the same youth soccer system that helped him become the player and person he is today. He believes it is a joy to work with such an incredible organization and top athletes in Southern California day in and day out.
